  18. ** BRIEF OVERVIEW:
  19.  
  20. There are two programs included in this evaluation 
  21. (SCHEDULE.EXE & SCANNER.EXE).
  22.  
  23. 1. SCHEDULE: this program initiates any executable program at regular 
  24.    time intervals, or set times during the day (see below).
  25.  
  26. 2. SCANNER: this scans a directory for a specific file at specified 
  27.    intervals (in seconds), and then notifies you when the file is
  28.    found (See SCANNER.TXT for installation instructions).

  31. ** SHEDULER background information:
  32.  
  33. SCHEDULE has been designed to run in the background of a Windows
  34. environment, periodically initiating an external program. The external
  35. program can be in the form of a .exe, .pif, .com, .bat or any program
  36. that is self executing. SCHEDULE can initiate external programs at
  37. regular time intervals set in minutes, or at set times during the day.
  38. SCHEDULE can be run several times, and each time a different .INI file
  39. can be specified allowing you to set-up the SCHEDULE's working 
  40. environment for the external program.

  57. ** SCHEDULE Full Version Features:**
  58.  
  59. 1. Initiates an external program using a specified .INI file, allowing

  65. 3. You can choose the headers and information displayed in the SCHEDULE
  66.    background task window. The default headers can be set before 
  67.    installation, allowing your company's details to be distributed 
  68.    with the program, or it can be changed after installation allowing 
  69.    the user of the program to choose their own headers.

  71. 4. The SCHEDULE can be removed from  memory after it initiates its
  72.    external program.

  74. 5. User friendly interface program which allows easy editing of the .INI
  75.    files from Windows, accessed through an icon.

  78.    sysops and companies).

  80. 7. For site licenses, we can compile the program so that, at time of
  81.    installation your company or individual details are specified in 
  82.    the header information, plus you can specify what default .INI
  83.    file parameters should be used.

  86. ** How can SCHEDULE be applied?
  87.  
  88. 1. We run an on-line service called Bureau De Knowledge. We currently
  89.    supplier SCHEDULE and the Scanner program to our customers. It is used
  90.    to initiate Banana-Com modem software at set times during the day.
  91.    Banana-com each time runs a script file logging the user on,
  92.    downloading and uploading their mail automatically using an off-line
  93.    mail module and then signing them off. If mail was found then a file is
  94.    downloaded to their local hard disk. From here the scanner program
  95.    detects the new file, renames the file to a given name or the current
  96.    date with an extension in sequence to the amount of message files
  97.    received so far today (i.e 02-05.Q03), and then notifies the user with a
  98.    small message "A message file has been delivered!" also giving the time
  99.    and date the file was delivered and the name and size of the file.

  101. 2. Automatically uploading or downloading your mail messages during the
  102.    night at cheap rate, saving you lots of money over a period of time.
  103.  
  104. 3. Automatically downloading or uploading a file once or several times a
  105.    day. Again this can be during the night, significantly saving your phone
  106.    bills.

  108. 4. The ultimate low cost Internet Mail gateway for several PCs on a LAN,
  109.    allowing all users to send and receive Internet mail through one modem.

  111. 5. Get SCHEDULE to remind you of an import event during the day.

  113. 6. Let SCHEDULE do some night-time maintenance for you for example get 
  114.    SCHEDULE to run any DOS or Windows utility such as a virus scanner, 
  115.    fixdisk utility which scans your hard disk and fixes any errors
  116.    found, defragment utility which optimises your hard disk for 
  117.    maximum performance. Use SCHEDULE for any tasks that take a long time.

  120.    run batch files for different backup jobs, then let SCHEDULE provide a

  154. ** Parameters held in ".INI" file,
  155.  
  156.    (see below for parameters used in the default .INI file supplied at time
  157.     of installation. Sysops and companies can specify the default parameters
  158.     at time of purchase).

  161. Header(1,2,3)  - Header information to be displayed in the task window. 
  162.          Each line uses "Times New Roman" with a point size of 18.
  163.          The first line will be displayed in red, the rest in
  164.          black. (Full featured version only)

  166. TimeType=      - number indicating which type of timing to use. A value
  167.          of "1" indicates "Interval" time to be used. A value of
  168.          "2" indicates "set times" will be used.
  169.  
  170. Interval=      - number indicating how many minutes between initiation
  171.          for "TimeType=1" parameter.
  172.  
  173. FileName=      - name of the external program to initiate.
  174.  
  175. T1(toT12)=     - set times to initiate for "TimeType=2". format must be 
  176.          "hh:mm" with leading zeros where necessary. For example:
  177.          "T1=09:00". unused parameters may be omitted, or inserted 
  178.          with a blank value.

  197.    switches available).

  199. SCHEDULE.EXE /R   - This tells the SCHEDULE program to stop running in the
  200.             background after one initiation attempt has been made.
  201.  
  202. SCHEDULE.EXE /I=IniFileName - Where IniFileName should be the name of the 
  203.                   .INI file you wish to use to setup the 
  204.                   SCHEDULE's working enviroment.

  207. ** WINDOWS 3.x SETUP Instructions! 
  208.  
  209. 1. From program manager, select the run option through the File-
  210.    Menu.
  211.  
  212. 2. In the command line: type <drive>:<path>setup.exe. <drive> should be 
  213.    replaced with the hard disk or floppy drive letter the files are stored 
  214.    on. <path> should be replaced with full path to the directory containing 
  215.    the files. For example (Command Line: a:\setup.exe). select OK or press 
  216.    the RETURN key once done, to continue.
  217.  
  218. 3. Set-up will display "Initialising set-up" for a while, then you will
  219.    be prompted for the path and directory the program files are to be
  220.    installed to. Select OK or press the RETURN key to accept the default
  221.    path and directory. If you wish to change this, type in a new path
  222.    and directory the program files should be installed to.
  223.  
  224. 4. Set-up will now copy the necessary files and create a new group
  225.    containing the Program icon.
  226.  
  227. 5. Once installation has been completed, Select OK or press the RETURN
  228.    key to continue.
  229.  
  230.    - To run SCHEDULE minimized, from program manager select the 
  231.      SCHEDULE icon by clicking on it once, then Select the properties
  232.      option through the File-Menu and click the small box with the 
  233.      caption to the right "Run minimized" to add a check (X) within 
  234.      it. Click the OK button to continue.
  235.  
  236.    - If this is an evaluation copy you have installed,  you will have
  237.      to edit the .INI file, using a standard text editor to
  238.      change default program environment parameters. 
  239.  
  240.    - If you have installed a full version of SCHEDULE, you can simply
  241.      select the SCHDEDIT icon, make changes and click exit when done.
  242.

  244. ** Implementation:
  245.  
  246. - The program commences by reading parameters from the specified .INI
  247.   file. If no .INI file was specified then SCHEDULE will use the default
  248.   .INI file contained within the installation directory. If this a
  249.   evaluation copy of SCHEDULE, you can only use the mailschd.ini 
  250.   contained within the installation directory. You can modify the 
  251.   mailschd.ini using a standard text editor.
  252.  
  253. - The "T=<n>" parameters are implemented flexibly. All values from "1" to
  254.   "12" are checked. None actually have to be present; they may be given in
  255.   any order; the times do not have to be in order. The program identifies
  256.   which parameters are set and sorts them into time order.
  257.  
  258. - If the external program named in the .INI file is not found, a warning
  259.   message will be displayed, but the SCHEDULE will still continue to run.
  260.   This warning message will be repeated at each due initiation time until
  261.   the external program is made present.
  262.  
  263. - Every five seconds, the program will check to see whether the next
  264.   initiation time has been passed; if so, it will initiate the external
  265.   program and calculate the next due time.
  266.  
  267.  
  268. ** Although the SCHEDULE program is designed to run minimised, if
  269.    maximised it will display the following status information:
  270.  
  271. Script file:        - file name of the external program to initiate.
  272. Last run:           - time and date the external program was last initiate.
  273. Next run:           - number of minutes to next initiate (updated every
  274.               5 seconds) the external program. For "TimeType=2", 
  275.               time of next initiation; if this is less than the 
  276.               current system time, initiation will take place 
  277.               the following day.

  279. Number of runs:    - the number of initiations (or attempts) since
  280.              the SCHEDULE program has been running.

  283. ** If the parameters are changed in the .INI file, the program must be
  284.    reloaded before the new settings take affect.
