-------------------------------------------------------------------
** BRIEF OVERVIEW:
There are two programs included in this evaluation
(SCHEDULE.EXE & SCANNER.EXE).
1. SCHEDULE: this program initiates any executable program at regular
time intervals, or set times during the day (see below).
2. SCANNER: this scans a directory for a specific file at specified
intervals (in seconds), and then notifies you when the file is
found (See SCANNER.TXT for installation instructions).
** SHEDULER background information:
SCHEDULE has been designed to run in the background of a Windows
environment, periodically initiating an external program. The external
program can be in the form of a .exe, .pif, .com, .bat or any program
that is self executing. SCHEDULE can initiate external programs at
regular time intervals set in minutes, or at set times during the day.
SCHEDULE can be run several times, and each time a different .INI file
can be specified allowing you to set-up the SCHEDULE's working
environment for the external program.
**********************************
** SCHEDULE Evaluation Features:**
1. Initiates an external program using a default .INI file, allowing a
single program to be run at one time.
2. Initiates an external program at regular time intervals set in
minutes, or at set times during the day.
3. Default headers and information displayed in the SCHEDULE background
window which cannot be changed.
************************************
** SCHEDULE Full Version Features:**
1. Initiates an external program using a specified .INI file, allowing
several programs to be run at one time.
2. Initiates an external program at regular time intervals set in
minutes, or at set times during the day.
3. You can choose the headers and information displayed in the SCHEDULE
background task window. The default headers can be set before
installation, allowing your company's details to be distributed
with the program, or it can be changed after installation allowing
the user of the program to choose their own headers.
4. The SCHEDULE can be removed from memory after it initiates its
external program.
5. User friendly interface program which allows easy editing of the .INI
files from Windows, accessed through an icon.
6. Technical Support and license agreement (special site prices for
sysops and companies).
7. For site licenses, we can compile the program so that, at time of
installation your company or individual details are specified in
the header information, plus you can specify what default .INI
file parameters should be used.
** How can SCHEDULE be applied?
1. We run an on-line service called Bureau De Knowledge. We currently
supplier SCHEDULE and the Scanner program to our customers. It is used
to initiate Banana-Com modem software at set times during the day.
Banana-com each time runs a script file logging the user on,
downloading and uploading their mail automatically using an off-line
mail module and then signing them off. If mail was found then a file is
downloaded to their local hard disk. From here the scanner program
detects the new file, renames the file to a given name or the current
date with an extension in sequence to the amount of message files
received so far today (i.e 02-05.Q03), and then notifies the user with a
small message "A message file has been delivered!" also giving the time
and date the file was delivered and the name and size of the file.
2. Automatically uploading or downloading your mail messages during the
night at cheap rate, saving you lots of money over a period of time.
3. Automatically downloading or uploading a file once or several times a
day. Again this can be during the night, significantly saving your phone
bills.
4. The ultimate low cost Internet Mail gateway for several PCs on a LAN,
allowing all users to send and receive Internet mail through one modem.
5. Get SCHEDULE to remind you of an import event during the day.
6. Let SCHEDULE do some night-time maintenance for you for example get
SCHEDULE to run any DOS or Windows utility such as a virus scanner,
fixdisk utility which scans your hard disk and fixes any errors
found, defragment utility which optimises your hard disk for
maximum performance. Use SCHEDULE for any tasks that take a long time.
7. If your backup software does not support scheduling but allows you to
run batch files for different backup jobs, then let SCHEDULE provide a
helping hand.
8. Let your imagination run free for a little while, SCHEDULE any
program you like at any time you choose.

** Parameters held in ".INI" file,
(see below for parameters used in the default .INI file supplied at time
of installation. Sysops and companies can specify the default parameters
at time of purchase).
Header(1,2,3) - Header information to be displayed in the task window.
Each line uses "Times New Roman" with a point size of 18.
The first line will be displayed in red, the rest in
black. (Full featured version only)
TimeType= - number indicating which type of timing to use. A value
of "1" indicates "Interval" time to be used. A value of
"2" indicates "set times" will be used.
Interval= - number indicating how many minutes between initiation
for "TimeType=1" parameter.
FileName= - name of the external program to initiate.
T1(toT12)= - set times to initiate for "TimeType=2". format must be
"hh:mm" with leading zeros where necessary. For example:
"T1=09:00". unused parameters may be omitted, or inserted
with a blank value.
** SCHEDULE.INI file is placed in the installation directory.
[SCHEDULE]

T2=12:30
T3=15:00
T4=23:45 (T5,T6,T7 etc, each on a seperate line).
** Command Line switches for Full Version (the evaluation copy has no line
switches available).
SCHEDULE.EXE /R - This tells the SCHEDULE program to stop running in the
background after one initiation attempt has been made.
SCHEDULE.EXE /I=IniFileName - Where IniFileName should be the name of the
.INI file you wish to use to setup the
SCHEDULE's working enviroment.
** WINDOWS 3.x SETUP Instructions!
1. From program manager, select the run option through the File-
Menu.
2. In the command line: type <drive>:<path>setup.exe. <drive> should be
replaced with the hard disk or floppy drive letter the files are stored
on. <path> should be replaced with full path to the directory containing
the files. For example (Command Line: a:\setup.exe). select OK or press
the RETURN key once done, to continue.
3. Set-up will display "Initialising set-up" for a while, then you will
be prompted for the path and directory the program files are to be
installed to. Select OK or press the RETURN key to accept the default
path and directory. If you wish to change this, type in a new path
and directory the program files should be installed to.
4. Set-up will now copy the necessary files and create a new group
containing the Program icon.
5. Once installation has been completed, Select OK or press the RETURN
key to continue.
- To run SCHEDULE minimized, from program manager select the
SCHEDULE icon by clicking on it once, then Select the properties
option through the File-Menu and click the small box with the
caption to the right "Run minimized" to add a check (X) within
it. Click the OK button to continue.
- If this is an evaluation copy you have installed, you will have
to edit the .INI file, using a standard text editor to
change default program environment parameters.
- If you have installed a full version of SCHEDULE, you can simply
select the SCHDEDIT icon, make changes and click exit when done.
** Implementation:
- The program commences by reading parameters from the specified .INI
file. If no .INI file was specified then SCHEDULE will use the default
.INI file contained within the installation directory. If this a
evaluation copy of SCHEDULE, you can only use the mailschd.ini
contained within the installation directory. You can modify the
mailschd.ini using a standard text editor.
- The "T=<n>" parameters are implemented flexibly. All values from "1" to
"12" are checked. None actually have to be present; they may be given in
any order; the times do not have to be in order. The program identifies
which parameters are set and sorts them into time order.
- If the external program named in the .INI file is not found, a warning
message will be displayed, but the SCHEDULE will still continue to run.
This warning message will be repeated at each due initiation time until
the external program is made present.
- Every five seconds, the program will check to see whether the next
initiation time has been passed; if so, it will initiate the external
program and calculate the next due time.
** Although the SCHEDULE program is designed to run minimised, if
maximised it will display the following status information:
Script file: - file name of the external program to initiate.
Last run: - time and date the external program was last initiate.
Next run: - number of minutes to next initiate (updated every
5 seconds) the external program. For "TimeType=2",
time of next initiation; if this is less than the
current system time, initiation will take place
the following day.
Number of runs: - the number of initiations (or attempts) since
the SCHEDULE program has been running.
** If the parameters are changed in the .INI file, the program must be
reloaded before the new settings take affect.
